From scorched bakelite to flush modular, rebuilt properly behind the plate.
A switchboard is the most handled electrical component in your home and the least inspected. We rebuild them properly — terminals torqued, loads redistributed, cable ends re-ferruled — and finish with modular plates that suit the room rather than fight it.
There is a particular category of electrical problem that people live with for years: the socket that only works if you wiggle the plug, the switch that clicks but takes a second to respond, the plate that has yellowed and warmed. None of these feel urgent. All of them are the visible end of a loose or degraded connection, and a loose connection is where domestic electrical fires start.
The physics is straightforward. A properly tightened terminal has near-zero resistance and stays cool. A loose one has resistance, and resistance under current produces heat. Heat oxidises the copper, oxidation raises resistance further, and the cycle accelerates. By the time the plate is discoloured, the terminal behind it may be running at well over a hundred degrees. Thermal cycling from Surat's summer heat and the constant plug-and-unplug of modern households make this worse, not better.
When we open a switchboard we rarely find a single problem. The usual picture in a fifteen-year-old Surat flat is a box crammed beyond capacity, five or six wires twisted together under a single screw with insulation tape as the only cover, an aluminium-to-copper joint quietly corroding, and a 16 A socket for the geyser wired in 1.5 sq mm cable. Repairing the visible switch would fix nothing.
Our rebuild strips the board back to bare conduit ends. Every conductor is cut back to clean copper, ferruled, and terminated one wire per terminal at correct torque. Joints that must be made are made in proper connectors inside the box, never twisted and taped. Where the box is genuinely too small for the circuits landing in it, we say so and either fit a deeper box or split the load across two positions rather than forcing it.
The finish is where the upgrade becomes visible. Modular plates from Legrand, Anchor Roma, Schneider or GM in the finish you choose, engraved or labelled where useful, set flush and square to the tile line. We can add USB-C charging modules, dimmers, fan regulators with proper step control, or a discreet indicator on the geyser switch so nobody leaves it running. The board should look intentional, not improvised.
The difference between a job that lasts and one you will be calling about again is almost always in the details below.
We rebuild the terminations, not just the visible switch. That is the difference between a repair that lasts and one that recurs.
No twisted bundles under a single screw. Ferruled ends, correct torque, and proper connectors for any joint that must exist.
An over-subscribed box gets split or deepened. We do not force eight circuits into a housing designed for four.
Legrand, Schneider, Anchor Roma and GM ranges in matte white, graphite, champagne and brushed metal — matched across the property.
USB-C charging points, dimmers, proper stepped fan regulators, indicator switches and bell push integration.
Written cover on the rebuild, with manufacturer warranty on plates and modules handed over as original bills.
Every step is the same whether the job is worth ₹400 or ₹95,000.
Circuit is isolated at the DB and proved dead. The plate comes off and every termination is photographed as found.
We check for heat discolouration, embrittled insulation, undersized cable and aluminium-copper joints, and report what we find.
Conductors are cut back to clean copper, ferruled, and terminated one per screw at manufacturer torque.
Modules are seated in the grid plate, the assembly is set flush and square, and switch functions are labelled where useful.
Polarity, earth continuity and on-load current are verified before the circuit is handed back into service.

They surveyed the flat properly before quoting — actually walked around listing every appliance and worked out a load calculation. Two other contractors just gave me a per-point rate. The finished job came with a circuit schedule and test readings, and every MCB in the board is labelled. I finally know which breaker does what.
My RCCB had been tripping every night for two weeks and the previous electrician told me to replace the whole board. Ambey's technician isolated the circuits one at a time and found moisture in a terrace light point in about forty minutes. Fixed the fitting, sealed the entry, ₹1,400 total. Honest work.
Twenty-two year old flat with no RCCB and nobody had ever mentioned it. They explained the difference between MCB and RCCB in plain language, showed me the trip time on the tester after fitting, and gave me a certificate. Small job, done like it mattered.
